Robert Half is partnering a growing global European healthcare business in the appointment of a Financial Controller in Manchester.
The business is on a growth trajectory and this is a newly created role supporting the CFO.
A detail-oriented Financial Controller is sought to take ownership of the day-to-day financial management of the business managing a small team. This role will play a key part in ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and effective controls, while supporting senior leadership with timely and insightful financial reporting.
The business operates in a dynamic and highly regulated environment, so this position requires both strong technical accounting skills and the ability to operate hands-on in a fast-moving business.
You will be ACA or ACA qualified with strong technical skills and the desire to move into a more commercial role with support of the CFO.
Key duties will include:
Financial Management & Reporting
Lead the preparation of monthly management accounts, board packs and commentary.
Ensure timely and accurate statutory accounts, VAT returns and other regulatory filings.
Manage VAT compliance including partial exemption calculations, methodologies, and annual adjustments, ensuring accuracy and compliance with HMRC requirements.
Oversee all daily finance operations (accounts payable, receivable, payroll, banking, cash flow).
Create, maintain and improve financial controls, policies and procedures.
Manage the annual audit and liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and HMRC.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
Support the CFO in budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning.
Deliver variance analysis and recommendations to support business decision-making.
Monitor KPIs, providing insights into performance and areas for improvement.
Team Leadership & Development
Manage and mentor the finance team, ensuring strong performance and development.
Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy and continuous improvement.
Systems & Process Improvement
Ensure finance systems are fit for purpose and drive automation where possible.
Streamline reporting processes to improve efficiency and insight.
Lead projects to strengthen financial governance and scalability as the business grows.
Skills & Experience
Qualified accountant essential (ACA, ACCA preferred)
Proven experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance role, ideally within an SME environment. First time mover will be considered if able to demonstrate experience in production of the accounts, not just audit.
Strong technical knowledge and financial reporting.
Demonstrable experience managing VAT partial exemption, including calculations, adjustments, and HMRC interaction.
Previous experience in healthcare is desirable but not essential.
Hands-on, with the ability to balance detail orientation with commercial awareness.
Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Previous experience with Business Central/Navision advantageous
Advanced Excel skills.
