Job Description
A growing, owner-led SME in South Bristol is looking for a commercially minded Finance Manager / Management Accountant to become the heartbeat of the finance function and a key voice around the leadership table.
This is far more than a reporting role. You’ll have end-to-end ownership of the numbers, real influence over decision-making, and the opportunity to shape how finance supports the future growth of the business — with a clear pathway to Finance Director for the right person.
The opportunity
Working closely with an engaging and ambitious CEO, you’ll take the lead on everything from the monthly management accounts through to cashflow strategy, budgeting and driving better insight across the business.
You’ll be inheriting a capable team and a solid platform — but there’s plenty of scope to improve processes, strengthen controls, and raise the bar in how finance partners with operations.
This role would suit someone who enjoys being hands-on, thrives in an SME environment, and wants to make a visible impact rather than sit in a large, layered structure.
What you’ll be doing
* Owning the production of timely, meaningful management information that drives decision-making
* Acting as the financial sounding board to the CEO and wider leadership team
* Leading, developing and motivating a small finance team
* Taking full responsibility for day-to-day finance operations across multiple entities
* Managing cashflow, forecasting and budgeting — with a sharp focus on working capital
* Delivering robust controls while continuously improving systems and processes
* Overseeing year-end, audit, tax and statutory requirements
* Providing commercial analysis on projects, investment decisions and cost optimisation
* Building strong relationships with banks, auditors and external advisers
About you
* Fully qualified (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)
* A strong technical grounding paired with genuine commercial curiosity
* Experience in an SME or owner-managed environment (or a clear desire to move into one)
* A natural leader who can develop people and influence non-finance stakeholders
* Comfortable rolling up your sleeves while also thinking strategically
* High integrity, high energy and a collaborative approach
