Overview
Mechanical Fitter position with Yorkshire Water (as described in the job text). This is a permanent, full-time role working around the Yorkshire region in the Maintenance team within the Wastewater area. The role is mobile and includes out-of-hours standby work.
Responsibilities
* Undertake maintenance of mechanical assets across wastewater treatment and pumping installations.
* Work as part of a Maintenance Team to deliver Planned & Reactive maintenance; respond to emergency calls (on-call rota).
* Work unsupervised in remote locations; manage and prioritise own workload; build and maintain relationships with customers, colleagues, suppliers, and contract partners.
* Adhere to Health and Safety policy and standards; identify hazards, provide mitigation, and report onto hazard database.
* Supervise approved Contract Partners; provide risk assessments and method statements where a permit to work is required.
* Use Toughbook and/or iPad to capture work activity and job status per workflow processes.
* Assist in development and training of apprentices and less experienced team members.
* Install and commission new plant and equipment to relevant standards; diagnose and repair faults on systems and plant.
* Identify and report follow-on work or areas for enhancement; conduct own risk assessments and create method statements when needed.
* Specify parts and equipment required for procurement as part of day-to-day duties.
Qualifications
* Recognised Mechanical craft/Technician Apprenticeship and a qualification such as City & Guilds/ ONC/ BTEC/ NVQ/ HNC/ HND or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Eng Tech.
* Full valid driving licence (no more than six points) due to visiting sites across the Yorkshire Region.
Desirable / Preferred
* HNC in Mechanical discipline; CompEx 11.
* Experience with safe isolation to current IET regulations; time-served industrial mechanical fitter; working with rotating equipment; ability to produce maintenance reports; fault finding on mechanical systems.
* Experience maintaining/repairing centrifugal pumps, gearboxes, compressors, pumps, steam systems, chemical plants; hot work/fabrication and welding; operating lifting equipment; pneumatics and hydraulics.
Requirements & Conditions
* Willingness to work in confined spaces with medical clearance including BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, and spirometry tests.
* Willingness to work extended hours including evenings, weekends, and overnight callouts as part of standby rota (limited to approximately 1 week in 4 when fully trained).
