Location: Marston Road, Oxford, OX3 0EE. Applications are invited for the position of Senior IT Officer at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies. The post holder will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and supporting IT facilities and services for teaching, research, seminars/lectures and administration in the Centre, as well as the Centre’s growing use of its audio-visual capabilities. This role suits someone with experience in delivering IT support and configuring IT infrastructure who can work across telecoms, audio-visual, and Centre events.

Job Description
Senior IT Officer
The Senior IT Officer assists the IT Manager in maintaining and developing all aspects of IT and AV infrastructure and services within the Centre, and deputises for the IT Manager when on leave. They provide professional, effective and customer-focused support to Centre members and guests, and may supervise the IT Officer as required.
Reports to: IT Manager
Hours of work: 37.5 per week, typically 9:00–17:30, Monday to Friday, with one hour for lunch. May require occasional evening or weekend work.
Probation period: 6 months
Salary: In the region of £38,674 – £46,913 per annum depending on qualifications and experience
Benefits: 27 days leave per annum plus public holidays; generous pension; lunches provided during term time (when available).
Essential selection criteria
Ability to
* Design, commission and maintain Windows Servers, including Active Directory, Group Policy, File Sharing, Print Server, DHCP and DNS;
* Configure managed switches and wireless access points, including VLANs;
* Configure firewall rules;
* Administer virtualization platforms, preferably Hyper-V;
* Configure storage area networks;
* Meet the needs of internal and external customers to deliver a high-quality service;
* Explain technical issues accessibly to non-technical users;
* Work independently and in a team;
* Communicate clearly in English with excellent interpersonal skills and a can-do attitude;
* Understand confidentiality and discretion;
* Analyse issues, prioritise, and take appropriate actions with minimal guidance;
* Adapt to changing circumstances and identify fresh approaches.
Experience
* Writing scripts using PowerShell or similar;
* Providing general IT support expertise;
* Client operating systems (Windows and macOS) plus common applications (e.g., Microsoft Office and Outlook).
Desirable experience
* Implementing IT security controls;
* Installing and managing Linux;
* Managing an Office 365 tenant;
* Desktop imaging and software deployment; AV experience including video conferencing (Teams/Zoom);
* DB administration (SQL Server or MySQL);
* Lecture capture;
Content Management Systems (e.g., Drupal);
* Audior visual control systems (Crestron, Extron, Q-SYS) for AV;
* Experience in higher education settings.

It supports academic excellence across disciplines and hosts facilities including classrooms, auditoriums and a library with extensive resources accessible via SOLO. The Centre is located on a 3.25 acre site on Marston Road, Oxford.
