Paediatric Neurodevelopment Specialist Nurse

The post is part of a specific team to undertake autism assessments with children. You will be based within the CDC neurodevelopmental team in Plymouth but assessments will take place both within the child development centre and in various settings across Plymouth and West Devon. Flexible and hybrid working is possible. The team is very supporting and has a very strong MDT way of working.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***


Main duties of the job

Working within the paediatric neurodevelopmental team undertake and coordinate assessments of children in relation to ASC/ADHD and LD. Liaise with wider MDT and schools to ensure all information is available and support needs identified for the child. Undertaking school observations, ADOS assessments and clinic reviews, formulating reports and attending MDT discussion will form the main elements of the role.

Job responsibilities

Ensuring the efficient and effective provision of care, advice, education and support to children and families in their own home or other community settings.

Assist the Lead Nurse for Community Paediatrics with future service development by identifying service need, evaluating priorities, service analysis.

Undertake project management as agreed with Lead Nurse for Community Paediatrics and the Directorate manager

Contribute to the co-ordination, collation and analysis of health data regarding children and young people within the CDC.

Responsibility for the line management of staff within the Neurodevelopment team including undertaking appraisals, Co-ordinating annual leave, making provision for cover in times of absence in accordance with trust guidelines and ensuring that the current service provision is maintained.

Management of staff sickness within the team and escalating any concerns in line with trust policy.

Initiate and participate in the recruitment process within HR and recruitment guidelines

Promote and ensure the provision and delivery of the highest quality of care for children and their families including the establishment of quality standards and implementation of quality initiatives.

Maintain an active role in all aspects of clinical governance including clinical audit, management of complaints, incidents and risk.

Ensure Health & Safety and Fire policies are complied with. Maintain a clean and safe environment, ensuring appropriate use / maintenance of equipment.

Person Specification


Knowledge & Experience

* Proven post registration in relevant speciality
* Able to demonstrate specialist proven knowledge in relation to Neurodevelopmental assessment and management.
* Demonstrable current and up to date experience of nursing patients with neurodevelopmental conditions / learning difficulties.
* oDemonstrable counselling experience
* oADHD course


Qualifications

* Degree level qualification in relevant field
* 1st Level registered nurse RN / RLD / RMN
* Safeguarding Supervision training or willingness to undertake
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Able to communicate sensitive information
* Ability to motivate others
