Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Substance Misuse Recovery Worker to join the team at HMP Kirkham, a Category D / open prison for males with a capacity of around 700. HMP Kirkham is a unique environment, with stunning grounds and lots to offer both staff and patients, including our brand new, state‑of‑the‑art gym. Join the Recovery Team and empower those who wish to make changes in their behaviour to promote health and well‑being through recovery from drugs and alcohol. This is a crucial role within the healthcare team, making a real difference to patients and delivering outstanding care.
Hours: This is a full‑time role, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Shifts are 8am - 4pm.
Salary: Annual salary £29,264 - £33,510 dependent on experience.

Main Duties of the Job
* Deliver outstanding care to psychosocial patients, seeking out, listening to, and acting on their feedback to ensure their care is personalised and tailored to the individual.
* Manage a caseload of patients (around 25‑40) with varying needs, including substance misuse, mental health, trauma, etc.
* Deliver group sessions on overdose awareness, harm reduction, motivation to change, relapse prevention and wellbeing.
* Provide a programme of psychosocial interventions and comprehensive assessments, including SMART Recovery.
* Offer information and advice on substance misuse, alcohol, smoking cessation, blood‑borne viruses and safe sex practices.
* Prepare patients for release.
* Carry out risk assessments alongside internal and external colleagues.

Qualifications & Experience
* Experience within substance misuse, ideally a prison / secure environment, and ideally within a Recovery Worker / Practitioner role.
* Experience of working within the substance misuse multi‑disciplinary framework, which includes housing, social care, health care and mental health pathways.
* Experience of managing a caseload.
* A flexible approach, and excellent communication skills.
