Senior Engineer - Fuel Transfer & Disposal. The Senior Engineer – Fuel Transfer & Disposal will work within the Fuel Handling Equipment team to mature the technical solution and delivery programme for the components scope and apply the necessary governance to all activities. Key Responsibilities: Component Design Leadership Lead the design, analysis, verification, and in-service support of fuel handling components, with a focus on spent fuel and irradiated material transfer systems. Apply deep technical knowledge of thermal, structural, radiation shielding, criticality, and irradiation effects.
Product Lifecycle Management Drive product development across all lifecycle stages—from concept and detailed design to commissioning and decommissioning. Lead new product introduction initiatives aligned with programme goals.
Programme Delivery Develop and manage integrated cross-functional programmes, ensuring alignment with dependent activities and strategic objectives. Navigate ambiguity and risk, providing clear direction and mitigation strategies.
Team Leadership Lead a small engineering team, fostering collaboration, innovation, and a positive, inclusive culture. Support team growth and ensure governance and assurance are maintained throughout delivery.
Stakeholder Engagement Build strong relationships across internal functions—design, analysis, manufacturing, supply chain, and programme management—as well as with external stakeholders including customers, regulators, and suppliers.
Communication & Influence Present complex technical topics to varied audiences, including senior leadership. Lead discussions and represent the team in cross-functional forums and external engagements.
About you: You are a proactive and adaptable leader with a strong background in nuclear component design, particularly within PWR systems. You thrive in complex, evolving environments and bring a collaborative mindset, technical excellence, and a passion for delivering safe, high-quality engineering solutions. Qualifications and Experience: Demonstrable experience in nuclear fuel handling or reactor core component design. Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and procurement routes. Proven track record in leading product development and cross-functional programmes. Experience managing ambiguity and risk in complex engineering environments. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Leadership experience in engineering teams with a focus on collaboration and growth.
