Overview
Permanent Clinical Practice facilitator post (Band 6) in The JAG accredited Endoscopy Unit at SWFT. You will be responsible for co-ordinating the ongoing skills of the Endoscopy nursing team and will need to have a good knowledge of all procedures carried out in the Endoscopy departments and be able to train and develop staff. You will guide new and experienced staff through competencies using the JAG JETS system and provide professional leadership outside of the department by actively contributing to Directorate and Trust wide projects. 2 years of endoscopy experience.
Key Responsibilities
* Contribute to the development of the ward team and support the Ward Manager in delivering a consistently high quality, cost-effective service.
* Deputise for the Ward Manager as required.
* Remain clinically based and strengthen the nursing contribution to patients and service users within the speciality across the organisation.
* Use specialist nursing skills to manage a caseload of patients referred for specialist intervention, care and support.
* Develop innovative practice, standards of care and strategies to ensure practice development and education for other professionals caring for patients within this speciality.
Experience and Education
* Diploma/Degree in Professional Nursing; First level registered nurse with 2 years experience in an acute medical setting.
* Relevant post-basic education and experience, including a minimum of two years at Band 5.
* Evidence of continuous personal and professional development; aptitude for working in a rapidly changing environment; excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Qualifications
* Essential: First level RN; Diploma/Degree in Professional Nursing/Health Studies; Evidence of continuous professional development; AIM/ILS Trained.
* Desirable: Mentorship and Assessing qualification.
Clinical, Management and Education
* Provide clinical and professional leadership and support to all non-medical staff in the ward; ensure nursing practice is based on current and best evidence.
* Maintain own personal and professional development; keep an up-to-date personal portfolio for NMC revalidation.
* Ensure ward philosophy aligns with clinical governance and that staff understand its significance to practice; maintain KPIs and Infection Prevention standards.
* Participate in high standards of evidence-based nursing; supervise and evaluate nursing staff; involve patients and carers in care planning and keep them informed of treatment and progress; conduct audits for record-keeping standards.
* Coordinate clinical activities within the unit and oversee shift management; act as clinical leader and role model; ensure safety and confidentiality of patient information.
Managerial and Financial
* Collaborate with the Ward Manager on sickness monitoring and adherence to absence policies; ensure equipment is serviced properly to maintain service continuity.
* Mentor student nurses; report and investigate incidents per Trust policies; support improvements to prevent recurrence.
* Ensure ward procedures reflect best practice and national strategies for emergency and acute patients; participate in recruitment, induction, mentorship/preceptorship and open recruitment days.
* Support staff development through IPR, KSF, and personal development plans; plan and evaluate induction and preceptorship for newly qualified nurses and those new to the emergency medicine specialty; benchmark ward documentation against NMC guidelines.
* Support Clinical Governance via Risk Management, Education/training, Clinical Supervision, Clinical Audit, and best practice.
* Assist in budgeting, resource optimization, leave planning, matching skill mix to workload, and cost-improvement initiatives.
Education and Professional Development
* Develop clinical practice through education; participate in in-service training; share evidence-based practice; attend statutory training annually.
