Overview
Job Purpose
To plan, deliver and assess high-quality Psychology lessons that engage and inspire students, fostering their understanding of the subject and helping them achieve their academic potential at KS4 and KS5.
Responsibilities
* Teaching & Learning: Plan, prepare and deliver engaging lessons in Psychology in line with the school's curriculum and exam board specifications. Teach GCSE and/or A-Level Psychology (or equivalent qualifications), adapting materials to meet the needs of all learners. Set, mark and assess work to ensure students make progress and achieve their targets. Use data to track and monitor student progress, identifying underachievement and implementing interventions. Maintain up-to-date subject knowledge and pedagogy.
* Classroom Management & Behaviour: Establish a safe, stimulating and well-managed learning environment. Promote positive behaviour and high expectations in line with school policies. Contribute to whole-school behaviour and safeguarding procedures.
* Curriculum & Department Contribution: Contribute to the development and review of schemes of work and assessments. Support and participate in departmental meetings, planning and moderation activities. Organise and/or assist with enrichment activities, trips or clubs related to Psychology or social sciences.
* Professional Responsibilities: Engage in professional development to enhance teaching practice. Communicate effectively with students, parents/carers and colleagues. Carry out duties and responsibilities as required (e.g. cover, break duties). Support the school's ethos, values and safeguarding policies.
Person Specification
* Essential: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent. Degree in Psychology or a related subject. Experience of teaching Psychology at KS4 and/or KS5. Strong subject knowledge and passion for Psychology. Ability to differentiate and support a wide range of learners. Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
* Desirable: Experience of teaching other Social Science subjects (e.g. Sociology). Familiarity with multiple exam boards or curriculum models. Evidence of raising attainment in previous roles.
