Advanced Medical Training Fellowship - Vitreoretinal Surgery
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, serving a population of over 1.15 million. This fellowship is part of the West of Scotland Training Programme in Ophthalmology and is a 1‑year post commencing in August 2026. The role is supervised by the Post‑Graduate Dean’s office; administrative responsibility lies with the NHSGG&C HR department.
Overview
Gartnavel General Hospital provides a specialised vitreo‑retinal service with five consultant VR specialists. The fellowship offers opportunity for specialist training, audit and research. The successful candidate will be responsible for inpatient and outpatient management, assist in specialist clinic and theatre sessions, and participate in the out‑of‑hours on‑call rota.
Responsibilities
* Inpatient and outpatient management of vitreo‑retinal cases
* Assist senior consultants in clinic and theatre sessions
* Participate in the out‑of‑hours on‑call rota
* Contribute to audit and research projects within the department
Qualifications & Eligibility
* Recent ophthalmic specialty training with CCT or expected CCT before the post starts
* Experience equivalent to CCT considered
* FRCOphth or equivalent accreditation required
* GMC registration and licence to practice in the UK
* Strong clinical and anaesthetic competence in vitreo‑retinal surgery
