Headof Legal - Healthcare/Life Sciences
Location: London or Bristol (Hybrid)
Salary: Circa £150,000 + Benefits + Bonus
An international healthcare business specializing in cancer treatment is seeking to hire its first lawyer in the UK, as HeadofLegal.
The organization is a PE-backed international entity that has been growing exponentially in recent years. Through various acquisitions and joint ventures, the business has taken a lead in cancer treatment globally and is challenging the landscape of cancer healthcare across Europe, with a particular focus on the UK to improve treatments.
With dual reporting lines to the Global GC and the UK CEO, this is a brand-new role in a semi-startup environment. The private equity backing has secured the business's future, but daily operations feel like a startup. Therefore, the role will be broad and all-encompassing, responsible for the full suite of legal issues and advising senior management. Responsibilities include a wide range of commercial work, advising on various agreements, and significant corporate activity, especially M&A and JV work. There will also be ad hoc matters related to real estate, employment, and close collaboration with external law firms as required.
Candidate Requirements
* You will be an experienced solicitor with UK experience, ideally having worked in-house within a similar environment. Solicitors from private practice will be considered, especially if they have had secondments or have been trusted advisers.
* Exposure to the healthcare/life sciences sector is advantageous but not mandatory.
* You should have broad corporate and commercial knowledge, with demonstrable experience in M&A, JVs, and commercial contracts (drafting and negotiating).
* Knowledge of Data Protection matters would be beneficial.
* A can-do attitude, ability to operate autonomously, and thrive in a growing, dynamic business that still requires process and procedures are essential.
* Your personality and ability to work with a wide range of people will be your greatest assets.
