The Role

Forward‑looking, focused, and innovative, Kingston University offers an exciting opportunity to join the Mental Health Nursing academic team as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer.

You will play a key role in enhancing nursing practice and strengthening the reputation of the School of Nursing, Allied and Public Health in the field of mental health nursing care across all domains of practice.

As a well‑respected professional you will teach across pre‑registration and post‑registration courses, inspiring students with your passion for mental health nursing and education. A keen interest in developing innovative, relational educational practice and a commitment to co‑production with those with lived experience are essential.

In addition to pastoral care of students, you will be encouraged and supported to pursue interests in research, enterprise, or professional practice. Our School celebrates equality, diversity, and inclusivity, welcoming applications from individuals who represent the full spectrum of the community.

Please note an enhanced with barred list Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check clearance is required for the role.

The Person

We expect the successful candidate to be a registered mental health nurse with the NMC, educated to at least degree level, with strong clinical experience. Enthusiastic, dynamic, and highly motivated, you should be passionate about teaching and eager to share your skills and expertise with the future nursing workforce. Excellent communication and teamwork skills are required.

A teaching qualification is desirable but not essential. We welcome applicants currently working in clinical practice who are interested in gaining experience in academia.

Applicants must meet Kingston University’s learning and teaching standards. By the end of probation you must achieve the relevant UKPSF recognition if not already obtained—either through our accredited Introduction to Learning and Teaching programme for new lecturers or the Kingston Academic Practice Standards framework for experienced educators.

The Faculty

School of Nursing, Allied and Public Health

Our people are passionate about developing nurses for the future across the four fields of nursing – adult, children, learning disability and mental health.

We support our students to ensure they gain the skills and knowledge to make a lasting impact on society.

We also have access to industry‑leading research for nursing and health professions.

Further information

This is a part‑time (22.20 hours per week) permanent position with a starting salary of £27,015 per annum (60% pro‑rata to £45,025 per annum) for a Lecturer and £30,096 per annum (60% pro‑rata to £50,160 per annum) for a Senior Lecturer, depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.

Interviews are expected to be held on Thursday 18 June 2026.

For informal enquiries, please contact Mrs Louise Howard, Head of Department of Public Health and Children's, Learning Disabilities and Mental Health Nursing.

Bring your true self, expertise, and passion to Kingston where we continue to strive to build a university that places authentic inclusion and belonging at its heart. We welcome applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+ communities and those with disabilities.
