Overview

We are looking to recruit a dynamic nurse with excellent clinical nursing skills to deliver a high quality service to patients attending the Pre-operative Assessment unit at RGH - Royal Gwent Hospital.

This developmental post offers an opportunity to become part of a specialised field of nursing that is different, challenging, yet satisfying. The successful candidate will be welcomed by our friendly team and supported to undertake a competency framework that will enable them to fulfil the role of a band 5 Pre‑assessment nurse initially, before progressing to a band 6 Pre‑assessment nurse, including completion of the Clinical Patient Assessment Module.

The successful applicant will be a motivated and enthusiastic individual with significant post‑registration clinical experience. Applicants will need to have a clear understanding of nursing quality and be able to assure excellence in clinical care. They must have relevant experience and knowledge of care delivery appropriate to this patient group, be creative, enthusiastic and motivated, and have excellent communication skills. The ability to work collaboratively with all members of the multi‑disciplinary team is essential, together with excellent communication skills.

The post holder will be based within Aneurin Bevan Health Board and will support ABUHB patients through the Pre‑assessment process so they can be admitted on their scheduled surgery date. The role includes advising and imparting sometimes sensitive information to patients, relatives and carers.

To be responsible for the Pre‑Operative Assessment of patients to a high standard, ensuring patients are case managed and prepared in a safe and timely manner without direct supervision. The post holder will work collaboratively with the unit lead and otherHealth Professionals to provide the highest standard of care, safety and service to patients and their relatives. This will involve complex diagnostic/pathological investigations with review.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Responsibilities

* Responsible for the development and implementation of the nurse practitioner led preoperative assessment service, working with the Clinical Director and multi‑disciplinary team to support a clinical environment that is patient and public focused.
* Plan the provision of care for patients in the Pre‑Operative setting.
* Contribute to the Pre‑Operative Assessment of patients to a high standard, ensuring patients are case managed and prepared in a safe and timely manner without direct supervision. Work collaboratively with the unit lead and other Health Professionals to provide the highest standard of care, safety and service to patients and their relatives.
* Develop clinical guidelines and protocols for screening of patients, liaising with Clinicians and other Directorates within the Health Board.
* Contribute to the smooth running of the unit by developing management and organisational skills, and by effectively organising the clinic and coordinating with agents from other disciplines as required.


Qualifications and Skills

* Significant post‑registration clinical experience.
* Clear understanding of nursing quality and ability to assure excellence in clinical care.
* Relevant experience and knowledge of care delivery for the patient group; creative, enthusiastic, motivated, and with excellent communication skills.
* Ability to work collaboratively with a multi‑disciplinary team and other Health Professionals.
* Desirable: ability to speak Welsh; English and/or Welsh speakers are welcome to apply.
