This role provides day‑to‑day leadership and clinical support to the phlebotomy team, ensuring the delivery of safe, high‑quality, and patient‑focused services within a community hospital setting. The post holder will lead by example, supporting staff development, maintaining service standards, and promoting a positive team culture.
The role plays a key part in improving patient experience and diagnostic outcomes by ensuring high standards of phlebotomy practice, supporting efficient patient pathways and reducing pre‑analytical errors. Through effective leadership, the post contributes to Trust objectives around quality, safety and workforce development.
The post reports to the Phlebotomy Manager and works closely with pathology, ward and outpatient teams at Lymington Hospital, as well as wider laboratory colleagues.
Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
* Provide leadership and clinical oversight for the phlebotomy service at Lymington Hospital, ensuring safe, high‑quality, patient‑focused care.
* Support, supervise and develop the phlebotomy team while maintaining efficient day‑to‑day service delivery.
* Work closely with pathology, ward and outpatient teams to support timely diagnostics and positive patient experience.
* Use your established phlebotomy experience to support staff with challenging venepuncture and difficult veins, promoting safe practice and staff confidence.
* Post is full time, working 07:00–17:00, four days per week, with job‑share arrangements considered.
* Based at Lymington Hospital, with occasional travel to Southampton General Hospital for training or meetings.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
* 5 GCSE’s or equivalent at grade 4 or above, which must include English and Maths
* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience
* Able to undertake a repetitive procedure that may involve standing or bending at a workstation for extended periods.
* High degree of manual dexterity and precision.
* Cannulation and Venesection clinical skills qualification or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
* Previous experience of phlebotomy
* A leadership qualification or training
* Basic Observation training/Qualification
* First Aid training
