Overview
As Thames and Chiltern's Health, Safety and Facilities Manager your expertise will help shape the well-being and operational excellence for Area. Your responsibility extends to all aspects of Health and Safety (H&S) and Facilities Management (FM) from coordinating both hard and soft FM services that keep the CPS estate running smoothly through to ensuring our staff have a great environment to work. You will oversee the delivery, audit, and statutory compliance of our facilities, ensuring every building in the Area is a model of best practice, maintaining important safety documentation and guaranteeing that all departmental and legal requirements are met. You will promote a positive health and safety culture for all our staff, leading by example and setting the standard, and collaborate with CPS Estates, Health and Safety, and FM/H&S colleagues to deliver a consistent, adaptable, and high‑performing FM/H&S service for the Area.
The Crown Prosecution Service is based in England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you must let us know when accepting this offer as you may need permission to work from your home address if hybrid working is part of your role.
You must be aged 16 before starting in this role. The start date is expected to be 8–12 weeks after the application deadline. This post is temporary, with the potential for permanent opportunities in the future in line with business needs.
Responsibilities
* Provide advice on internal FM and H&S matters; liaise with HQ H&S and FM teams to provide accurate advice and support to CPS colleagues.
* Control the efficient running of CPS buildings in the Area, implementing solutions and monitoring actions to ensure FM and H&S compliance.
* Lead the day‑to‑day management of hard and soft FM providers to meet contract resolutions and customer expectations.
* Assure compliance through inspections, checks and ongoing management; ensure recommendations and control measures are in place for all compliance matters.
* Liaise with external partners within courts and police stations to address risks, accommodation, and FM/H&S issues with timely resolution.
* Support line managers and staff, elevating knowledge and engagement with health and safety to create a proactive, safe work environment.
* Collaborate with CPS Estates, H&S, and FM/H&S colleagues to deliver a consistent, adaptable, and high‑performing service for the Area.
* Respect and adhere to CPS recruitment processes, security and safeguarding requirements as part of employment checks.
Qualifications and Behaviours
* IOSH/NEBOSH certification to Level 3 or equivalent; IWFM qualification and training preferred.
* Experience in health, safety and facilities management within a complex estate environment.
* Evidence of the Crown Prosecution Service or Civil Service values and behaviours as part of the application process.
* Willingness to undergo a criminal record check and baseline personnel security standard checks as appropriate.

Additional Information
* Hybrid working policy; at least 40% of contracted hours spent at a court, office, or other official workplace depending on business need.
* Salary and progression: CPS uses fixed rates for the Higher Executive Officer grade; progression from developing rate to spot rate after an 18‑month development period, subject to performance.
