Overview
The Technical Consultant owns and drives end‑to‑end solutions by working with key business clients and engineering groups to design and implement IT solutions. The role requires gathering customer requirements, translating them into clear business cases and requirements documents, and then delivering solutions that optimize IT investment. Success hinges on strong business partnership, strategic thinking, and detail orientation.
Responsibilities
* Collaborate with business partners to identify alternatives and solutions to business challenges, leveraging internal or third‑party solutions.
* Identify, understand, negotiate, and document business requirements with various stakeholders.
* Facilitate IT planning and estimating phases.
* Manage delivery of business cases, scoped requirements, use‑case documentation, test plans, and rollout communications.
* Act as primary liaison with program and business solutions teams throughout the development lifecycle—from needs analysis through bug tracking and UAT to rollout.
* Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and subject‑matter experts to ensure solutions align with business goals.
* Balance customer requirements with technical constraints, documenting existing "as‑is" systems and defining strategy for "to‑be" architecture.
* Develop scalable, internationally applicable solutions using proven methods, techniques, and standards.
* Create coordinated plans to deliver solutions within budget, scope, and product requirements.
* Lead budget management, ensuring projects remain on track.
* Provide strategic business and technical direction for systems solutions, identifying gaps and correlating to potential solutions.
* Drive prioritization and decision making around project scope.
* Execute on project plans and support cross‑group execution.
* Make trade‑off decisions on scope, schedule, resources, and budget with minimal guidance.
* Align business priorities with IT capabilities and resources.
* Analyze, document, decompose, review, and validate requirements, ensuring traceability and alignment with overall solution vision.
* Advocate for business benefits to IT and influence project team priorities to resolve user issues.
Requirements and Qualifications
* Strong negotiation and consensus building skills with internal customers and stakeholders.
* Deep understanding of business processes and ability to define application and platform functionality.
* Credible customer relationship building across multiple groups.
* Ability to identify business issues and develop risk mitigation strategies.
* Sound understanding of IT technology concepts, including mainframe and off‑host architectures, Microsoft products, and development tools.
* Strong leadership, balancing vision and tactical business execution.
* Adaptability to fast‑paced, changing environments.
* Exceptional communication, problem‑solving, and cross‑group collaboration skills.
* Proficiency in distilling technical projects into compelling executive‑level presentations.
* Conflict resolution ability.
* Excellent analytical and critical‑thinking skills.
* Solid project/program management experience with large‑scale cross‑enterprise IT system implementations.
* Experience with use‑case analysis, data/social diagramming, process mapping, and requirements documentation.
* Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field (preferred).
