Support Worker

Glenrothes Outreach

Full time and part time positions available

There are 34 supported people who require person centred support to meet their needs. The shifts are on a rota basis and involves lone working 1-to-1 and the occasional double up 2-1.

Your typical shift will usually begin with reading or handing over any updates from the previous days, so that you know what is going on within the service, and you are aware of the individuals' plans for the day. Some of these services can be really challenging and require strict guidelines to follow so the supported individual can live a fulfilled life.

If working the early morning shift, you will be supporting individuals with getting up, showered and dressed. After this, you would support with breakfast and medication where required.

We promote positive interactions with the people we support to promote independence. When completing household chores and meal preparation we work on the philosophy of staff and supported people completing equal share. We also encourage the people we support to manage their own finances. We find this method both supportive and that is produces the best results for the supported person to accomplish the task. We also support our service users to maintain their social connections with family and friends. We support them to access and attend community centres and events, participating in group activities and to attend doctors, hospital and dentist appointments. 90% of the people we support use public transport to their activities with their support workers.

At the end of the day, the support worker will document anything that is relevant to the individual's day in their daily log, so that the next support worker will be able to promote structure and continuity of support.

Where support is required in the evenings, the people we support will cook dinner with staff support and again use this time to practice their independence skills. This includes knowing how to cook and prepare food, how to keep a kitchen clean, and what is safe to eat. After this, individuals might go out to a pub, disco, watch football, sports training or they might just choose to stay in and watch a film or relax and carry out evening routines.
