Chiller Refrigeration Engineer

About the Role: Our client in Peterborough are seeking a highly skilled Chiller/Refrigeration Engineer to join their growing team. You will play a key role in installing, maintaining, and commissioning a variety of commercial and industrial chiller systems, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with industry standards. This is a field-based role, requiring travel to sites primarily across the Cambridgeshire region, with occasional out-of-hours or weekend work depending on project demands.
Job Responsibilities
Install, service, and maintain a range of air-cooled and water-cooled chillers (scroll, screw, centrifugal, etc.)
Perform full commissioning duties: pre-commissioning checks, system testing, functional performance testing, and final reporting.
Diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs or system modifications.
Ensure all systems meet design specifications and comply with F-Gas and EN378 regulations.
Complete and maintain detailed documentation, including commissioning checklists, risk assessments, and method statements.
Support junior engineers and site teams during installation and commissioning.
Liaise with project managers, clients, and contractors to deliver seamless project execution.
Maintain the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance.
Person Specification
NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (or equivalent)
City & Guilds 2079 / F-Gas Certification (Category 1)
Demonstrable experience commissioning commercial/industrial chiller and refrigeration systems
Solid understanding of refrigeration cycles, electrical systems, and BMS integration
Ability to read technical drawings and wiring schematics
Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
Valid UK Driving Licence
CSCS/ECS certification preferred
Desirable:
Manufacturer training (e.g., Trane, Carrier, Daikin)
Experience with hydrotesting, pressure testing, and flushing
Knowledge of heat pumps and wider HVAC systems
Excellent communication and technical reporting skills
