Salary: £14.95 per hour / £28k - £30k per annum
We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Health Care Assistant to join a 27-bed residential care home supporting residents with dementia, mental health needs, and learning disabilities.
This role requires a confident and compassionate senior carer with strong experience in residential care, medication management, care planning, and team leadership. The successful candidate will support the safe running of the service and lead care staff during shifts.
Role Overview
As the Senior Health Care Assistant, you will be responsible for supporting the day to day running of the care home during your shift, ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and dignity of residents while supervising and supporting a small team of care staff.
You will act as the most responsible staff member on shift after the Manager and Deputy Manager, making this a key leadership role within the home.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and support a small team of Care Assistants during shifts
Allocate duties effectively to ensure safe and high quality care delivery
Provide supervision, guidance, and practical support to care staff
Deliver high quality personal care to residents where required
Manage the medication cycle, including ordering, receiving, carry forward, and medication audits
Administer medication safely and maintain accurate medication records
Write and update care plans to ensure they reflect residents needs
Complete and review risk assessments and ensure they are regularly updated
Maintain accurate care documentation using electronic systems such as PCS or Nourish
Carry out regular resident checks and respond appropriately to needs
Ensure safeguarding, health and safety, and infection control procedures are followed
Report incidents, concerns, and updates clearly to the management team
Promote a person centred approach that supports residents dignity, independence, and quality of life
Requirements
Previous experience working as a Senior Carer / Senior Health Care Assistant in a residential care home setting
Proven experience managing and leading a small team of carers
Strong experience with medication cycle management including ordering, receiving, carry forward, and auditing
Must have an NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care
Experience writing and updating care plans
Experience completing and maintaining risk assessments
Experience using electronic care systems such as PCS or Nourish
Strong spoken and written English with clear documentation skills
Friendly, proactive, and professional attitude
Flexible to work nights, weekends, and varying shifts

Have worked under nurses within nursing home settings, as this is a residential care home without nurses. The Senior Health Care Assistant is the most responsible person onsite after the Manager and Deputy.
Are currently working as Senior Carers or Senior Support Workers in domiciliary care agencies, as the scope of medication management and care responsibility differs significantly from residential care settings.
