About the Opportunity:
Amentum is recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Energy business.
The department is entering an exciting phase, supporting our key client’s UK nuclear fleet through a business transformation and supporting new small modular reactor developers. Our work covers New Build, Generation, Life Extension, and Decommissioning, with capabilities in demand across the nuclear sector.
The successful candidate must be highly motivated, proactive, and eager to develop their technical skills.
Key to success will be your interpersonal skills, building effective relationships, and engaging with multiple stakeholders across locations.
This role is suitable for those with experience in civil, nuclear, or other highly regulated industries, familiar with working in regulated environments, providing engineering support, and delivering work to high HSSE standards.
The role offers variety, including reviewing design and substantiation, calculations, technical advice, and supporting refurbishment/modification projects to extend plant and equipment life.
Your responsibility will be to deliver complex engineering solutions on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
This position is based at one of our Energy offices (Newcastle, Warrington, Gloucester, Bristol, or Knutsford), with flexible working arrangements considered.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Contributing to project delivery from bid to commissioning
2. Working within multidisciplinary teams on high-profile projects
3. Owning technical challenges, developing strategies, and engaging stakeholders
4. Producing and reviewing design deliverables
5. Managing client relationships and leveraging them for business growth
6. Understanding practical implementation of designs and compliance with standards
7. Simplifying complex problems and maintaining relationships
Qualifications and experience:
1. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, with Chartered or working towards Chartership with IMechE or similar
2. Knowledge of standards and regulations in relevant disciplines
3. Experience in design and substantiation
4. Experience with Pressure Vessels, Pipework (ASME code)
5. System analysis experience leading to performance improvements
6. Knowledge of civil nuclear plant systems and design guidelines is advantageous
7. Self-motivated with collaborative mindset
8. Innovative problem-solving skills
