Mattress Sewing Machinist - Maternity Cover
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Sewing Machinist with specialist skills in mattress manufacturing to join our team.
This is a hands-on role that requires precision, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of mattress assembly techniques.
You will be responsible for stitching and assembling mattress panels, borders, handles, labels, and other fabric components to high-quality standards.
As a key member of our team, you will work with industrial sewing machines and specialist materials to produce premium mattresses that meet our design and quality specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
* Operate a range of industrial sewing machines, including walking foot, overlock, and tape edge machines, to produce mattress panels and borders.
* Sew quilted panels, borders, handles, and labels with precision and consistency.
* Work from production specifications, patterns, and technical drawings to ensure accuracy in size and finish.
* Join and assemble mattress components in the correct sequence to maintain product integrity.
* Inspect finished work to ensure compliance with company quality standards.
* Carry out basic maintenance and adjustments on sewing machines as required.
* Handle heavy and bulky materials safely and efficiently.
* Collaborate closely with other production team members to ensure smooth workflow and on-time order completion.
* Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
Skills & Experience Required
* Proven experience as a sewing machinist in the mattress, upholstery, or furniture manufacturing industry (essential).
* Strong working knowledge of industrial sewing machines (particularly tape edge and overlocker machines).
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and fabric patterns.
* Excellent attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
* Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
* Ability to work to production targets and deadlines.
* Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Desirable Skills
* Experience sewing mattress borders, handles, and labels.
* Knowledge of quilted fabric assembly and foam or spring mattress construction.
* Ability to carry out minor mechanical adjustments or maintenance on machines.
Job Type: Fixed term contract
