About The Role We now have an opportunity for a Research Scientist to foster the development of synchrotron-radiation based research on active materials. You will provide scientific and technical support to both the in-house and user research programs in this area, as well as maintain and support the Active Materials Laboratory. Your Main Responsibilities Will Include Providing general laboratory support to scientists, visitors and users. Liaising with the Health Physics Group. Reviewing the proposals requesting use of the Active Materials Laboratory. Providing advice and supporting the user community in the design, plan and performance of experiments. Contributing to the development of specialised sample environments, sample cells, methods and procedures to enable experiments. Developing your own research programme in active materials with synchrotron radiation in collaboration with Diamond scientific staff. About You You will hold an appropriate first degree or equivalent, a PhD degree/Second degree in chemistry, physics, biology, materials science or related discipline, and experience and knowledge in the following areas: Relevant synchrotron research. Working with active materials X-ray Spectroscopy techniques: X-ray Fluorescence, X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XANES and EXAFS), X-ray Emission Spectroscopy Leading own research project You will be available to travel occasionally within the UK and abroad including overnight absences.
