What you will be doing

as a Fire Alarm Engineer

This role will lead to carrying out fire alarm risk assessments/requirements (HSP 12) upon request across many of Thames Water's sites.

In-house training will be provided to support the engineer to progress further towards a Project Engineer role, undertaking all aspects of Health & Safety management for your portfolio of projects. See below for full job requirements and expectations.

1. Site visits to assess the quality of contractors' work against all standards.
2. Compiling and reporting these findings, including photos.
3. To advise and scope works with a contractor on resolving problems.
4. Carry out site fire alarm assessments/requirements to BS 5839-1.
5. Scoping/writing specification documents.
6. Health & Safety management for your portfolio of projects.
7. Assessing tenders.
8. Financial management.
9. Programme management.
10. Communication and technical assistance to key stakeholders/customers.
11. Ensuring all asset data is captured and updated at the end of a project.
12. We are looking for a Project Engineer located in the West London/Thames Valley area, covering Thames Water sites.
13. Required to travel to various sites each week. Please note that currently, some journeys could amount to an approximate 150-mile round trip.

Location –

We have two vacancies: one based at Lane End Sewage Treatment Works and one at Mogden Sewage Treatment Works. You'll be on-site up to 5 days a week in this role. You’ll also travel to other Thames Water sites as needed, depending on project demands. As this is a mobile role, you’ll need a full UK driving licence and your own vehicle. A monthly car allowance is provided to support your travel.

Working Hours – Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week.

What you should bring to the role

To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need are:

14. Have experience within a commercial and/or technical role.
15. FIA BS 5839-1 Fundamental or equivalent certification in Fire Alarm principles and standards.
16. Training or relevant work experience.
17. Hold a full UK driving licence and have your own transport.
18. Can work unsupervised and use your own initiative to deliver specified outputs.
