Salary: £31,000 - £33,000
Reports To: Assistant Technical Manager (Mechanical)

About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Maintenance Technician (Mechanical) to join our Facilities Management team at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth. This is a key role in ensuring the reliable operation and maintenance of critical mechanical systems across a busy hospital environment.
You will be responsible for carrying out planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance on a variety of mechanical systems, with a strong focus on safety, compliance, and high standards of service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform routine boiler tests and mechanical maintenance tasks (training provided)
* Prepare plant and equipment for insurance inspections
* Work safely on steam and hot water systems under a Permit to Work system
* Diagnose faults and maintain complex systems in line with PSSR and other regulations
* Support the Estates Management team in delivering a 24-hour maintenance service
* Liaise with hospital departments to resolve maintenance issues professionally and efficiently
* Carry a radio for immediate response and undertake training as required
* Work in confined spaces and challenging environments when necessary
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* Recognised engineering apprenticeship or approved equivalent (e.g. City & Guilds)
* NVQ Level 2 (or higher) or equivalent relevant experience
* Demonstrable experience in a relevant mechanical maintenance role
Desirable Skills and Knowledge
* City & Guilds in steam maintenance or BOAS certification
* Experience with calorifiers, PHEs, pipe fitting, industrial hot water systems
* Knowledge of specialist pressure systems
* Familiarity with other trades is advantageous
