To support the Clinical Skills Activities Team (CAST) in the delivery of clinical skills within East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust (ELHT). The post holder will be part of DERI, based within the Clinical Education Team. The the core elements will be to provide clinical skills training, support the Trust Preceptorship Multi- Professional Programme and provide cross cover to other clinical teams within DERI.
You will develop, co-ordinate, implement and evaluate clinical skills training within ELHT with an ultimate aim of supporting colleagues to gain the skills needed to provide safe, personal and effective care and improve patient care and experience.
The post- holder will work with multi- professionals across the Trust and will need to promote the benefits and importance of education, in each person’s role. The role will provide expert advice to ward managers, team leaders, practice-based educators, and clinical areas in supporting Trust standards in implementation of skills, and promote effective communication between clinical areas and the Clinical Education Team to facilitate the transition of the learners between trainee and competent practitioner
You will be typically based within a classroom setting or simulated clinical environment within the learning and development centres on the BGTH and RBH sites. You may also be required at times to support learners in the clinical areas.
Main duties of the job
1. To deliver clinical skills training for example; venepuncture, cannulation, IV therapies, ECG, male catheterisation, tracheostomy care, Acute Illness management (AIM) and CSW AIM.
2. Provide monthly reports for clinical skills courses, training and development and preceptorship progress.
3. Manage teaching groups to ensure that training delivered is equitable to all users
4. Collate data, documentation, and resources such as feedback from evaluations to evaluate course materials.
5. Act as support and advice to clinical areas with regards to skills, international nurses and preceptorship.
6. Adapt training delivery to service needs and demand.
7. Ability to organise, prioritise and plan own workload, prioritising and be able to work autonomously.
8. Facilitate an adult learning process that creates a safe, non- threatening climate which supports learning across the health care system
9. Organise and deliver a training programme to the newly appointed international nurses.
10. Support the development of the Multi- professional Preceptorship Programme across the Trust.
11. Support other clinical teams within DERI in the facilitation of their courses as required.
12. Be a faculty member for resuscitation courses e.g. ILS/BLS dependent on area of expertise.
13. Evaluate service delivery, identifying areas for improvement and initiate change as required.
14. Assist and develop quality improvement ideas and programmes within the team to improve educational outcomes extending across the Trust.
Working for our organisation
The post is a full time vacancy and hours are worked predominantly Monday to Friday from 8am- 4pm, although flexibility is required around these hours to cover training requirements.
You will be expected to work across all sites of ELHT as necessary although the majority of time is spent between Royal Blackburn and Burnley General Hospitals.

* Extensive and recent post registration clinical experience in an acute setting
