Exciting Opportunity for a Bridge Engineer in the East Midlands
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a delivery-focused Bridge Engineer to join my client's established structures team, working on the design and assessment of highway structures across the East Midlands.
As Bridge Engineer, you will play a hands-on role in the delivery of new designs, structural assessments, and refurbishment solutions. This position is ideal for someone looking to work on varied assets-from rural overbridges to complex highway structures-supporting regional connectivity and infrastructure resilience.
The main duties of the Bridge Engineer are:
·Lead on the design and technical delivery of new highway structures and bridge improvements, ensuring compliance with national standards.
·Undertake structural assessments and reviews using relevant DMRB, Eurocodes, and LA/DMRB documents.
·Support the preparation of detailed designs, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for bridge refurbishment, strengthening, and new-build schemes.
·Work closely with internal project managers, site supervisors, and external contractors to support the delivery phase.
·Carry out design checks, calculations, and quality assurance reviews for both temporary and permanent structural works.
·Liaise with local authority clients and third-party consultants to ensure that all design outputs align with programme goals and budget expectations.
·Contribute to buildability reviews, construction sequencing, and site queries during delivery.
The Bridge Engineer will have key experience in:
·Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with experience in bridge or highway structure design and assessment.
·Strong technical understanding of bridge design standards, including Eurocodes, BD and CD documents, and the Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works.
·Proficiency in structural analysis and design tools such as LUSAS, MIDAS, AutoCAD, and TEDDS.
·Prior experience delivering structures within a local authority, consultancy, or Tier 1 contractor environment.
·Knowledge of the East Midlands' transport networks and regional infrastructure priorities is advantageous.
·Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with delivery teams, contractors, and asset managers.
·Working towards or holding professional accreditation (CEng, IEng, or equivalent) with ICE or IStructE.
