Seven Resourcing is currently recruiting an experienced Trading Standards Officer – Technical to join a local authority regulatory service in Birkenhead. This is a part‑time contract role offering flexible hours and the opportunity to work on complex and high‑risk Trading Standards investigations within a professional, multi‑disciplinary environment.
The Role
Reporting to the Trading Standards Team Leader, you will play a key role within the Safer Wirral Services, undertaking criminal compliance and enforcement activity across a wide range of regulatory functions. Working autonomously within a generic Trading Standards team, you will be responsible for inspections, investigations, and enforcement action relating to complex and serious breaches of Trading Standards legislation.
This role requires a confident and technically skilled officer who can assess risk, identify legal contraventions, and determine proportionate enforcement outcomes, including formal action where necessary.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out complex inspections, surveys, and investigations into breaches of Trading Standards legislation
* Lead criminal compliance enforcement activity across multiple regulatory service areas
* Assess evidence, identify offences, and determine appropriate enforcement action based on risk
* Prepare and present solutions to resolve complex regulatory and compliance issues
* Undertake and contribute to complex projects involving internal teams, partner agencies, and external stakeholders
* Gather, evaluate, and present evidence in accordance with legal and procedural requirements
* Prepare reports, statements, case files, and recommendations for enforcement action, including prosecution where appropriate
* Provide technical advice and guidance to businesses and stakeholders to support compliance
* Ensure all work is carried out in line with legislation, codes of practice, and council policies

Requirements
o Qualified Trading Standards Officer or equivalent relevant professional qualification
o Significant experience working within a local authority Trading Standards service
o Strong technical knowledge of Trading Standards legislation and enforcement powers
o Proven experience managing complex and high‑risk investigations independently
o Ability to make sound, defensible decisions regarding enforcement action
o Excellent report writing, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
o Experience working with minimal supervision in a regulatory environment
