Opportunity
We are seeking a highly motivated, passionate, and experienced Principal Ecologist to join our UK–wide Ecology team at Stantec. This exciting role offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, support existing water‑utility partnerships, pursue new opportunities, and shape the future of our ecological aspirations.
As a Principal Ecologist you will build a team of talented professionals, oversee the expansion of our ecological presence, foster new client relationships, and lead in excellence by implementing best practices. You will manage complex ecological issues within a project context, mentor staff, engage with clients, and support bids and tenders to broaden our project portfolio.
Although Stantec has a large ecology team, this particular role focuses on supporting our water‑utility frameworks in the South East of the UK. You will receive support from the ecology water lead and other principal ecologists while enjoying autonomy to build a growing team and secure opportunities.
Qualifications
You will be a seasoned ecologist with extensive experience navigating the intricacies of professional consultancy. Your expertise in complex ecological challenges, legislation and policy, terrestrial ecological issues, and protected‑species licences will be essential. Proficiency in conducting PEAs, ECIAs, ecological chapters, and HRA contributions, familiarity with UKHab classification and the Defra Metric, and the ability to craft compelling fee proposals and manage project budgets are required.
Experience in winning work and team development is a bonus. Your passion for ecology and expertise are what truly matter.
If you are ready to take charge of complex ecological projects and make a real difference, join our dynamic team.
