Overview
Join Zurich Insurance as an Assistant Market Underwriter. This is an entry role into the world of Property, Casualty and Motor underwriting. Location options: Birmingham, Fareham or Farnborough. Closing date for applications: 12 September 2025. Working hours: part-time, job-share or full-time. Salary: Up to £30,000 depending on experience plus an excellent benefits package.
We’ll support and train you on the job and through funded professional development, learning from some of the best underwriters in the industry. Zurich Municipal focuses on providing insurance and risk management solutions for the public and voluntary sectors, including charities, housing associations and education bodies across the UK.
The roles are within our market-facing underwriting teams and provide a structured career path into underwriting. You will build your foundations for success by learning risk and insurance fundamentals, dealing with customer queries, producing documentation, and instructing risk surveys with our surveyors.
If you are analytical, comfortable with numbers, enjoy detail and are eager to learn more about underwriting, we’d love to hear from you.
Many of our employees work flexibly in various ways, including part-time, flexible hours, job share, some home working or compressed hours. Please talk to us at the interview about the flexibility you may need.

* Instruct risk surveys, and provide a summary of findings to market underwriters.

What are we looking for?
* Ambition, willingness to learn, grow, and be part of a team.

* Adaptability to different workloads and pressures.
* Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
As an inclusive employer, we want to ensure that all candidates feel comfortable and can perform at their best during the interview. You’ll have the opportunity to let us know of any reasonable adjustment or practical support needed when you apply.
