We are seeking a dynamic Workshop Manager to lead our Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Workshop operations at Heathrow Airport. In this pivotal role, you will leverage your expertise in workshop management and leadership to ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of GSE, directly contributing to the seamless functioning of airport operations. Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership: Manage and lead the GSE Workshop team, ensuring they are equipped, trained, and motivated to deliver high-quality maintenance services in a dynamic airport environment
2. Operational Excellence: Oversee the maintenance and repair of GSE to minimize downtime and meet the critical demands of airport operations
3. Safety and Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities comply with airport regulations, safety protocols, and industry standards, prioritizing a culture of aviation safety and a Just Culture
4. Efficiency: Drive operational resilience by optimizing processes, managing resources effectively, and maintaining a well-organized workshop environment
5. Collaboration: Work closely with airport stakeholders, including airline partners, ground handlers, and internal teams, to address operational challenges and maintain service excellence
6. Continuous Improvement: Champion initiatives for enhancing workshop performance, streamlining workflows, and promoting innovation in GSE maintenance practices
7. Emergency Support: Provide timely support to relieve operational pressures during peak times or unexpected equipment issues
About You
Qualifications and Experience:
8. Proven experience leading a busy workshop, preferably within an airport or aviation-related environment
9. Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced setting
10. Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams, fostering a positive and collaborative workplace culture
11. Excellent communication skills to engage with diverse stakeholders across airport operations
12. Commitment to safety, quality, and compliance with regulatory standards
13. A proactive mindset with a passion for service excellence and continuous improvement
14. City & Guilds/NVQ or equivalent qualification
15. Plant or heavy goods vehicle training would be beneficial but not essential
16. Experience with both diesel and electric vehicles, hydraulics, and welding
Requirements:
17. Checkable and reliable references (education and/or employment) for the last 5 years
18. References to cover any gaps in employment
19. A full UK driving licence (max 3 penalty points)
20. Proof of the right to work in the UK
21. Completion of a basic criminal record check (both UK and overseas)
Note: All positions work a rotating shift pattern across a 7-day working week, with a mix of early and late shifts, so flexibility is essential.
