An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Rheumatology team within the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust. We are seeking a clinician with imagination, drive and commitment to work in Morecambe Bay. You will be required to have appropriate experience in rheumatology and hold or be within six months of obtaining certification from the General Medical Council.
Expected interview date is likely to be mid/late‑March 2026.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide specialist out‑patient opinion and case management;
* Contribute to the ongoing development of rheumatology services for the local population across the Bay;
* Participate in training and educational activities, administrative, teaching, continuing medical education and audit activities whilst maintaining clinical excellence within the service;
* Optional dual specialty role.
Main Duties
We are seeking two consultant clinicians with imagination, drive and commitment to work across Morecambe Bay. These are full‑time positions, but applications are welcome from those wishing to work less than full time. Please see the attached Job Description for a comprehensive indication of the role.
Principal Activities
* Delivery of out‑patient clinics;
* Making early diagnosis and treatment decisions for patients;
* Requesting appropriate diagnostics;
* Reviewing diagnostic results;
* Maintaining comprehensive records using the Trust's ePR;
* Attendance and input at MDTs;
* Undertaking clinical audits;
* Supervision of junior medical staff;
* Other associated medical reviews and input in line with GMC requirements, Trust expectations and individual tailored competencies.

Situated on the edge of the picturesque Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, UHMBT operates sites at Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as from a number of community‑based premises across Morecambe Bay. The FGH and RLI sites are Acute General Hospital sites with Type‑1 Emergency Departments, whilst WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, alongside an Urgent Treatment Centre. All three hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. Person Specification
Qualifications
* MBBS and MRCP, or equivalent;
* Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice;
* Entry on Specialist Register or receipt of CCT within six months of interview.
Experience
* Depth and breadth of Rheumatology Medicine following completion of an approved STR training programme or equivalent.
* Experience in a special interest that will complement those existing in the department.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience at locum consultant level.
* Previous NHS experience.
Skills, Ability and Knowledge
* Willingness and ability to fulfil the key elements of the job description.
Teaching
* Evidence of teaching appropriate to medical students, doctors in training and the multidisciplinary team.
Audit
* Knowledge of multidisciplinary clinical audit principles and evidence of direct involvement in two specific audits in the last 18 months.
Management Ability
* Knowledge of the NHS plan/modernisation agenda and its implications for service development.
