Join Our Team as a Speech and Language Therapy Lead. At QEF, we provide specialized speech and language services for clients with complex disabilities under the care of CRC. We are looking for a leader to drive high-quality SLT provision within our rehabilitation centre.
Step into a leadership role in our state-of-the-art 48-bed rehab unit. We are committed to providing top-tier, evidence-based rehabilitative care. You’ll work with a diverse range of clients as part of a large multi-disciplinary team, and your role as Speech and Language Therapy Lead is pivotal. You will report to the Head of Clinical Services and be a key player in our senior leadership team, delivering patient-centered care.
Responsibilities
* Reporting to the Head of Clinical Services and holding accountability for the SLT provision to all clients within our rehabilitation centre.
* Leading and managing a specialist SLT team in a brand new state-of-the-art rehabilitation centre (team includes band 6 and band 5 SLTs, an SLT assistant, and students).
* Contributing to the continued development of a high-quality SLT therapeutic service.
* Providing specialist dysphagia assessment and intervention at senior practitioner level.
* Providing highly skilled communication assessment and intervention for clients with acquired brain injury (e.g., stroke, ABI) at senior practitioner level.
* Delivering 1:1 and group SLT sessions and creating accessible communication and swallowing guidance for the wider MDT.
* Conducting skilled mental capacity assessments independently or with other professionals as appropriate.
* Holding a key-worker role, coordinating a client’s whole journey, liaising with families, and acting as a single point of contact for queries and discharge planning.
* Advocating for clients in reports, CHC forms, and DST meetings requiring high-quality reporting and handling of complex questions.
* Working closely with the wider MDT (PTs, OTs, Psychology, dietitian, nursing, carers, kitchen staff, activity coordinators) and with external agencies as needed.
* Contributing to service development, quality improvement projects, and clinical audits with Head of Clinical Services and senior management.
* Providing clinical supervision and expert advice to SLT staff and students on placement.
* Recruitment within the SLT department and involvement in the wider CRC staffing remit.
* Managing SLT team performance, sickness absence, appraisals, and probationary periods in line with QEF policy.
* Promoting learning and reflective practice within the SLT and wider team, including training and development activities.
* Collaborating with catering and dietetics to ensure high-quality catering aligned with the IDDSI framework.
About you
* Degree in Speech and Language Therapy with up-to-date HCPC registration.
* Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy and adherence to professional guidelines.
* Post-graduate experience in physical and neuro-rehabilitation, including dysphagia, communication, and voice management.
* Up-to-date professional portfolio with relevant post-graduate courses and CPD.
Qualifications and Experience
* Essential: Degree in Speech & Language Therapy; additional training in Dysphagia; ongoing CPD relevant to TBI; ongoing membership with the RCSLT; HCPC registration.
* Experience: Experience with adult neurologically impaired adults; working with carers.
* Knowledge and skills: Strong literacy and numeracy; excellent written and verbal communication; proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; strong decision making; excellent clinical skills; ability to manage a small SLT team; team working; excellent knowledge of neuro speech and language therapy; knowledge of augmentative and alternative communication.
