Contract Details
* Start Date: ASAP
* Contract Type: Fixed term
* Duration: 12 months
* Purpose: Training contract – structured training and supervised clinical development
Responsibilities
* Support management of elective, traumatic and complex spinal conditions in adults and children across inpatient care, theatres, clinics and MDT activity.
* Provide supervised operative experience and day‑to‑day ward leadership.
* Participate in audit, research and quality improvement activities.
* Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of best practice.
* Participate in middle‑grade spinal on‑call rota, providing emergency and out‑of‑hours support.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Criteria
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* FRCS
* GMC registration with a licence to practise
* Appropriate knowledge base and sound clinical judgement
* Some prior spinal training
* Prior training within Orthopaedics and/or Neurosurgery at registrar level to year 4
Desirable Criteria
* CCT
* Evidence of completion of ATLS

* Effective teamwork in multi‑professional settings
* Understanding of equality and diversity
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
* Strong organisational skills with ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
* Calm, compassionate and responsive to rapidly changing circumstances
* Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
* Evidence of surgical aptitude and good clinical judgement
* Clear logical thinking and analytical scientific approach
Appointment Details
* Appointment under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust‑appointed fellow doctors.
* Skilled Worker sponsorship required – applicants must meet Home Office criteria before applying.
* Educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, with a named educational supervisor from the start of the post.
* CPD opportunity highly supported; study leave available.
* Salary at nodal pay point linked to the grade, plus additional remuneration for hours, weekend allowance and enhanced pay where applicable.
