Driver - Street Cleansing Service
Location: Downpatrick, Newry and Newcastle
Contract: Temporary
Pay Rate: £ per hour

About the Role
As a Driver within the Street Cleansing Service, you will be responsible for driving allocated vehicles safely and effectively while supporting the delivery of high-quality cleansing, refuse and environmental services.
The role will involve vehicle checks, transporting equipment and personnel, leading an assigned crew and supporting street cleansing duties when not driving. You will work outdoors in all weather conditions and will be expected to interact professionally with members of the public.
Key Responsibilities
7. Drive and take responsibility for allocated service vehicles
8. Complete routine vehicle checks, including oil, water and cleaning checks
9. Transport goods, equipment and personnel as required
10. Act as team leader for the assigned crew
11. Report public safety issues, defects or environmental concerns
12. Support sweeping, litter collection, weed removal and cleansing of public spaces
13. Empty and inspect litter bins as required
14. Assist with refuse collection duties when required
15. Operate equipment and apparatus connected with the allocated vehicle
16. Use radio telecommunications equipment in line with road traffic legislation
17. Complete documentation linked to the duties of the post
18. Work in line with health and safety legislation, Council policies and procedures
19. Participate in relevant training and development
20. Support the positive reputation of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council
Essential Criteria
Applicants must have:
21. A current valid driving licence, minimum Category C1
22. A current valid driving licence, minimum Category C1 + E
23. A current Driver Certificate of Professional Competence, CPC
24. At least 1 year of previous experience driving vehicles requiring a Category C1 licence
25. Experience of customer care in a front-line service environment
26. Knowledge of health and safety requirements linked to operating C1 category vehicles
27. Ability to work outside normal working hours when required
