Purpose of the role
To maximise visitors’ enjoyment of National Trust for Scotland managed sites by maintaining excellent standards of service, optimising income opportunities, and ensuring the safety and security of the site and its assets.
Specifically, to ensure smooth and safe operations in Admissions, Retail, Visitor Centre, Catering, and Events, making the property an excellent place to visit and work.
We seek talented, customer-focused individuals to join our team and help us make Crarae Gardens a 5-star Visitor Attraction.
Ideal candidates will have experience or a keen interest in Visitor Experience and Scotland’s Heritage.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
To provide consistently high standards of visitor care by:
* Welcoming visitors and processing admissions, retail, or catering purchases efficiently and knowledgeably.
* Providing high-quality service to visitors with special needs or impairments, in accordance with the Equality Act.
* Assisting international visitors with specific needs.
* Welcoming large groups warmly and efficiently.
* Answering queries about the site, education facilities, and local area.
* Performing housekeeping duties and maintaining hygiene standards, including HACCP compliance in catering.
* Making and serving barista-grade coffee and assisting with catering.
* Supporting daily retail operations and promoting the National Trust for Scotland brand, memberships, and campaigns.
Site and Personal Presentation:
* Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, including general cleaning, waste management, and polishing.
* Ensuring the site is ready for opening at the set time.
* Wearing the correct uniform, PPE, and name badges.
* Reporting damage or wear and tear promptly.
* Collaborating with gardening, grounds maintenance, and site repair teams.
Financial Procedures:
* Adhering to financial procedures, including till operation, banking, and safeguarding monies.
* Upselling products, memberships, and services.
Health and Safety:
* Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation.
* Securing the site at close of day and ensuring visitors vacate safely.
* Using PPE as directed.
Candidate Requirements:
* Experience in customer-facing catering or retail roles, delivering excellent customer care.
* Experience in a heritage environment preferred.
* Experience with sales, ticketing, or events, including till work and cash handling.
* Excellent cash handling skills.
* Warm, welcoming, and patient personality.
* Strong selling skills adaptable to different customers and products.
* Flexible and helpful attitude towards customers and colleagues.
