The Opportunity
Northampton is a town with a deep-rooted history in technical craftsmanship and manufacturing, particularly within the automotive and footwear industries. We are seeking an innovative and skilled Design & Technology (DT) Teacher to join a forward-thinking secondary faculty. In this role, you will inspire students to move from concept to creation, equipping them with the technical skills and design thinking required to thrive in Britain’s modern engineering and creative sectors.

The Department
* You will join a collaborative team of specialists who treat the workshop and CAD suite as a hub for real-world problem solving.
* The academy boasts exceptional facilities, including laser cutters, 3D printers, traditional woodworking and metalworking machinery, and dedicated textiles and food technology spaces.
* We follow a curriculum that balances traditional hand-tool skills with modern digital manufacturing, ensuring students understand the full lifecycle of a product.
* We benefit from Northampton’s industrial links, providing students with opportunities to engage in STEM challenges and insights into local high-performance engineering firms.

Core Responsibilities
1. Curriculum Delivery: Teaching Design & Technology across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE), with the ability to lead A-Level or Level 3 Technical awards in Product Design or Engineering.
2. Technical Instruction: Guiding students through the safe and effective use of a wide range of materials (timbers, metals, polymers) and manufacturing processes.
3. CAD/CAM Integration: Training students in industry-standard design software (such as 2D Design, SolidWorks, or Autodesk) and overseeing the transition from digital model to CNC production.
4. Iterative Design: Encouraging a "fail fast, learn fast" mindset, teaching students how to prototype, test, and refine their ideas based on user needs and environmental impact.
5. Workshop Safety: Maintaining a rigorous standard of health and safety in accordance with DATA (Design & Technology Association) and CLEAPSS guidelines, ensuring a secure environment for all learners.

The Successful Candidate We are looking for a practitioner who is as passionate about the "how" as they are about the "why." Requirements include:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Design & Technology, Engineering, or a related creative discipline.
* Technical Versatility: A high level of competence across multiple material areas and a commitment to keeping pace with emerging design technologies.
* Instructional Clarity: The ability to demonstrate complex practical techniques to large groups while maintaining high levels of engagement and safety.
* Analytical Thinking: A teacher who can help students evaluate their own work critically, fostering a high standard of finish and functional success.

Why Join Us?
* A school that treats Design & Technology as a flagship STEM subject, essential for the future of the local and national economy.
* Access to specialized professional development focused on the latest CAD/CAM innovations and health and safety certification.
