Summary

Monitors and controls the internal and external security systems of the Juvenile Detention Center; assists full time officers in monitoring and supervising detainees; transports detainees to and from various appointments.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Provides supervision, programming, and educational support for detainees at the Juvenile Detention Center.
* Conducts room searches and room checks as required by law.
* Monitors and controls both internal and external security of the Juvenile Detention Center.
* Deals with the public, social service agencies, and other law enforcement agencies in person and by telephone.
* Drives detainees to and from various appointments and ensures information from the appointments is conveyed to full time officers.
* Performs other duties as requested by a supervisor.


Supervisory Responsibilities

This job does not exercise supervisory responsibilities.


Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).


Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret data, to extract information, to understand technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from court personnel, social service and/or law enforcement agencies, and the general public.


Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where standardization doesn’t always exist. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must have a valid driver’s license.


Physical Demands

The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with arms or hands. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. Potential problems may exist with detainees who are not complying with the rules of the Juvenile Detention Center. Employees are required to multi-task and deal with occasional stressful situations. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
