TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking to appoint an innovative, inspiring and well qualified Secondary Teacher specialising in Social, Emotional and Mental Health to work at our nurturing and supportive small school. Subject specialisms of interest for this vacancy are Maths, Design & Technology, Science or English however we are interested to hear from a range of secondary qualified teachers with experience of teaching pupils with special educational needs.
Main duties and responsibilities are indicated here. Other duties of an appropriate level and nature may also be required and will be discussed with the successful applicant.
Pastoral
* Establish and develop productive working relationships with every pupil
* Support pupils and show you understand how to motivate and encourage them to develop and achieve
* Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils in the school and in the teaching group – support pupils with peer relationships
* Encourage pupils to interact and work cooperatively with others and engage in all activities
* Use own initiative to provide support for pupils to broaden and enrich their learning
* Be aware of and support differences and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop
* Undertake pastoral duties, such as taking on the role of form tutor, and supporting pupils on an individual basis through academic or personal difficulties
* Promote equal opportunities for all at all times
Teaching & Learning
* Prepare and deliver lessons to a range of pupils of different ages and abilities using effective short term planning
* Teach different curriculum subjects and differentiate resources for pupils
* Mark work, give appropriate verbal and written feedback and maintain records of pupils' progress and achievement
* Research new topic areas, maintaining up-to-date subject knowledge, and devise and write new curriculum materials, including long and medium term schemes of work
* select and use a range of different learning resources and equipment, including ICT options
* Liaise with the SENCO and other teachers to identify and support the progress of all pupils
* Supervise and support the work of teaching assistants
* Participate in and organise extracurricular and enrichment activities, such as educational visits, social activities and sporting events
* Promote and encourage excellent standards of behaviour in line with the school's behaviour policy and check that uniform requirements are met, promoting and encouraging high standards of appearance and tidiness
Special Educational Needs
* Keep up to date with current good practice and develop knowledge of special educational needs
* Prepare pupils for qualifications and external examinations and implement personalised interventions where required
* Communicate with parents, carers and others about pupils' progress
* Liaise with other professionals, such as social workers, careers advisers, educational psychologists and education welfare officers
Company Expectations
* Be aware of the Independent School Standards and regulations associated with special secondary schools
* Complete administrative requirements of working in a small school such as logging petty cash, completing registers and liaising with the Examinations Officer
* Use resources in the most effective, efficient and economic manner possible
* Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, security and confidentiality, reposting all concerns to an appropriate person - ensure Health & Safety procedures are followed and implement relevant Risk Assessments
* Attend and participate in regular meetings and participate in regular in-service training (INSET) as part of continuing professional development (CPD)
* Be involved with the Performance Management and the school's monitoring activities and act positively on feedback received as part of Lesson observations, work scrutinies or learning walks
* Actively support the mission statement, ethos and the aims of the school and promote the school positively both internally and externally by contributing to the overall work of the school
* Have excellent attendance and punctuality for work.
