About the project This role will be working across multiple projects and sectors across Costain and the UK, with the main base being sited in our Manchester office. Purpose of the role As a member of the Technical Systems Team, reporting to the Digital Engineering Lead, you will work with the team of Application Engineers providing support to multi discipline Engineers and Designers across multiple sector projects in energy, nuclear, highways, rail, water, and airports. You will need to have strong technical skills, be creative and passionate about technology and enjoy working as part of of a high-performance team. As a Graduate member of the Technical Systems team, you will be trained and learn to provide administration and support services to Projects and Engineering personnel, ensure effective and efficient utilisation of systems, develop and implement best in class engineering systems and help to shape our digital integration, products and services. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in engineering and curiosity to understand the business use-cases to drive better customer experiences and the adoption of digital technology Costain Graduate Development Programme Our programme focuses on helping individuals to learn a mix of both Leadership and Technical skills. We offer a structured training programme to enable graduates to work towards achieving Chartership in their chosen field. Graduates may also have the opportunity, after the first 8 – 10 months to rotate and to work on a number of exciting and progressive projects around the UK during the 2-year period, experiencing the best we have to offer across the different sectors we work in. Our line managers are fully supportive of the Graduate Development Programme and will be involved in helping you along the way. In addition to the programme, we offer mentoring and support in every area of work, as well as a structured training programme to enable graduates to work towards achieving professional qualifications. Responsibilities Working closely with the Technical Systems team. Developing and implementing digital solutions across the business. Maintain and develop existing web applications and business reporting. Contribute to Infrastructure improvement projects related to the systems that we support. Active participation in troubleshooting, debugging, and updating systems. Attend workshops with Engineering Users to define system requirements. Basic working knowledge of programming languages (C#, Java, T-SQL). Be familiar with following systems, SharePoint, Power BI, SQL Server, MS Azure & AWS Qualifications You will have or expected to achieve a minimum 2:1 in a relevant discipline. Degree qualified in IT, Engineering or Software Engineering. Have passion for Costain's Carbon Net Zero targets IT proficient Good knowledge of Engineering and Construction Able to work accurately and appreciate its importance to the team A willingness to learn with appropriate instruction Excel at building and maintaining positive relationships The ability to thrive in pressured situations The ability to empathise and communicate with all people, regardless of their background or circumstances Excellent organisation, communication, and time management skills Mobility to work on various projects over the 2-year programme throughout the UK Extra Information Please note that for this role, and in order to rotate around the business as part of the graduate scheme, you will be required to obtain and maintain security clearance of at least Security Check level (or SC clearance). To satisfy the requirements, you will need to have been a legal UK resident for a minimum of 5 years and be able to successfully complete the vetting process.
