Department of Pathology

Anatomical Pathology Technologist

Band 4

Full Time post 37 hours per week

Applicants are invited to apply for the above post. We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and hard-working person to join our friendly and dedicated team. Applicants should be suitably qualified with the Level 3 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology however, individuals without are invited to apply.

The Level 3 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology qualification is mandatory for the post therefore the successful candidate, in combination with workplace training, must be prepared to complete further education, if not in possession of the qualification. The qualification will be funded. Minimum qualifications for candidates without the Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy Pathology Technology is SCQF level 8 e.g. HND; SVQ4.

Applicants must have a flexible approach to work, and will be required to participate in all aspects of the Autopsy service; which includes both mortuary and body store duties. Working within Mortuary services involves considerable manual handling, which training will be provided and reviewed.

Applicants must have good communication skills as will be working in a very sensitive area and supporting bereaved relatives.

NHS Lothian Mortuary Services are located across all acute sites and the successful applicant will be required to rotate to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Western General Hospital, Edinburgh and St John’s Hospital Livingston. Mortuary working hours varies across the three acute hospital sites; SJH and WGH colleagues work 8am – 4pm with 3.30 pm finish on Friday’s, whereas the RIE, which is the main site in Lothian is 8.0 – 4 pm.
