Role Overview
This is an opportunity for an experienced, HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to work in a busy department which provides a full range of clinical and diagnostic services to NHS Tayside. The successful applicant will work in the Virology section of the Medical Microbiology Laboratory at Ninewells Hospital, where 300,000 investigations are carried out per annum. The department is approved by the Institute of Biomedical Science and NHS Education Scotland as a training laboratory, and has UKAS accreditation to the ISO 15189 standard.
We are looking for a senior member of staff who can demonstrate effective leadership and initiative. Candidates must be flexible and able to work as part of a team. Extensive post‑registration experience in a UK NHS diagnostic Microbiology/Virology laboratory is essential. The laboratory is modern, progressive, well‑equipped and fully computerised. Post‑qualification professional development is encouraged and supported.
Qualifications and Registration
Applicants must be or be working towards a FIBMS/MSc in Microbiology/Virology or an equivalent M‑level achievement. Applicants must have current HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist and must have completed an IBMS specialist portfolio in an appropriate subject or an equivalent qualification recognised by the IBMS. The HCPC registration number must be stated on the application form.
Working Hours and Shift Pattern
Hours of work are 36 hours per week (Mon‑Fri). Saturdays are worked as part of the normal roster. On attaining appropriate competences you will also join the roster for the Out of Hours sessions, which include Saturdays and public holidays.
Interview Process
Interviews will be held in person and a presentation will form part of the interview process. Remote interviews are not offered.
