Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust are currently seeking organised and motivated candidates to fulfil Senior Physiotherapist opportunities within the team at Wigan and Leigh Hospice under a long-term placement you a dynamic and enthusiastic individual with excellent communication skills looking to embark on a new opportunity within the NHS? The post holder will need to have previous NHS experience within the community and must be able to work alone on home visits. They must be able to demonstrate initiative and prioritise a complex workload whilst working both as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a team.
High levels of both written and oral communication are essential to this post with the ability to deliver or discuss difficult diagnosis and prognosis with tact, empathy, managing distressed or aggressive patients or carers/relatives. The post holder must be able to communicate accurate and sensitive information to patients, carers, and relatives as well as within their own team & colleagues.
Main duties of the job
2. To provide Physiotherapy intervention to clients with a palliative condition or with specialist complex needs as a result of their cancer disease or treatment.
3. To manage a defined caseload using evidence based/client centred principles to access, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
4. To regularly supervise Physiotherapy students on practice placement.
5. To provide leadership and clinical supervision for other junior staff as delegated by supervisor.

Job responsibilities
6. To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work and to maintain overall accountability for delegated duties of treatment to junior staff for patients on your caseload.
7. To use a wide variety of Physiotherapy assessment methods to identify clients who require Physiotherapy intervention.
8. To use clinical judgment in order to prioritise caseload in line with clinical guidelines and protocols.
9. To ensure interventions take place in the most appropriate setting, or clients homes.
10. To plan, prepare and undertake client assessments for a designated caseload in line with professional and national standards and guidelines.
11. To work with clients and/or carers to identify goals as part of an overall care plan in co-operation with the multi professional team using recognized goal setting documentation.
12. To plan and implement individual and/or group interventions in collaboration with clients using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.
13. To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment for clients with multiple needs/pathology in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention.
14. To justify own clinical judgments when differences of opinion occur
15. To act as an advocate for patients needs when necessary.
16. To demonstrate effective communication skills with carers, team members, Physiotherapy colleagues and other agencies.
17. Participate in MDT meetings and case conferences.
18. To maintain good working relationships.
19. To convey information in a sensitive and appropriate manner on diagnosis, prognosis and treatment plans in a range of verbal and non-verbal forms that clients/relatives can understand.
20. Use a variety of skills to gain consent and co-operation to treatment plans.
21. To educate patients, relatives and carers in conditions and their effects in order to adapt to an appropriate lifestyle.
22. To contribute to client related developments and activities within the multi-professional team.
23. To identify and implement service and practice development within own area of clinical specialism in conjunction with supervisor and/or manager
