An opportunity has arisen within the English and Media faculty for a committed and enthusiastic teacher of English, with the potential for a TLR for the right candidate. The English and Media faculty at Helena Romanes School consists of passionate subject specialists who have a wealth of experience and knowledge which enables them to guide our students to achieve their full potential at every Key Stage. This post would be suitable for either an ECT, someone looking to return to teaching or an experienced colleague. We welcome Early Careers Teachers and have a number of experienced mentors on our staff. Helena Romanes School is committed to developing all its staff and has a rigorous, evidence-informed CPD programme as well as leadership opportunities for ambitious individuals. The successful candidate will be highly motivated and committed to delivering high quality lessons to promote the best outcomes for students.
The English Faculty at Helena Romanes is a strong department with a proven track record of achieving excellent outcomes. In the recent 2025 GCSE English Language examinations: 74% of students achieved a Grade 4 or above; 57% of students achieved Grade 5 and upwards; almost 20% of students achieved Grades 7-9. We deliver the AQA specifications in both English Language and English Literature, with both courses being taught in mixed ability groupings. For Literature, our texts of choice are 'Macbeth', 'A Christmas Carol', 'An Inspector Calls' and the 'Power & Conflict' poetry cluster. At KS5, we are pleased to offer the AQA combined 'English Language and Literature' course alongside the exciting introduction of OCR English Literature in 2026.
Helena Romanes is a popular all through school situated in the beautiful North Essex countryside with good communications to London and the South East and is approximately 7 miles from Stansted Airport.

It is an exciting time to join Helena Romanes School as we have a new building commissioned by the DofE and the prospect of moving into state-of-the-art new premises is on the horizon. The primary phase is scheduled to move in the academic year 2025-26 with the secondary phase not long afterwards.
