Key Account Manager
Portsmouth | £70,000 – £80,000 + Package | Hybrid Working | Permanent
We’re working with a growing multi-disciplinary design & build consultancy looking to appoint an experienced Key Account Manager to take ownership of several strategically important client relationships across complex and high-profile projects.
This role would suit someone who understands technical project delivery and can comfortably operate within a multi-disciplinary consultancy environment — someone with experience across areas such as design coordination, specification, project delivery, stakeholder management and working alongside technical teams across multiple disciplines.
This isn’t a traditional sales role and wouldn’t suit someone from a purely target-driven or transactional account management background. They’re looking for someone commercially aware who can build strong client relationships whilst also understanding how complex design and delivery projects are managed and delivered.
The business operates across Building Surveying, Architecture, Mechanical & Electrical Design, Civil & Structural Engineering, BIM, AutoCAD & Revit Design, Building Services and MOD / Defence projects, so candidates will ideally come from a consultancy, construction, engineering or programme-led environment with exposure to multi-disciplinary teams and project delivery.
You’ll be focused on developing and strengthening long-term client relationships, coordinating with internal technical teams and ensuring projects and programmes continue to run smoothly and professionally.
The salary range is intentionally broad and will depend on factors such as your sector background, technical understanding, level of account responsibility and experience operating within complex project environments.
The Role
Manage and develop a portfolio of key client accounts
Act as the main relationship lead for strategic customers
Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders and decision makers
Work closely with internal multi-disciplinary teams across design and delivery
Support coordination across technical disciplines including surveying, design and engineering
Maintain oversight of project delivery, performance and client expectations
Manage account risks, issues and escalation points where required
Ensure projects are delivered in line with contractual and operational requirements
Support wider business development activity within existing accounts
What They’re Looking For
Proven experience in a Key Account Manager, Client Manager, Project Delivery or similar client-facing role
Background within consultancy, design, engineering, construction or programme-led environments
Understanding of project delivery, design coordination, specifications and multi-disciplinary teams
Ideally exposure to disciplines such as Building Surveying, M&E Design, Civil / Structural Engineering, Architecture or BIM
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
Commercial awareness with a relationship-led approach
Able to operate professionally within regulated and security-conscious environments
