Hays is recruiting an experienced Finance Business Partner to join a dynamic Children and Families Finance Team within a local authority. This interim role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting the Children’s Travel Service with financial oversight, strategic input, and budgetary control.
Role Overview:You’ll be a key financial advisor within the directorate, providing challenge, insight, and support to operational teams. Your expertise will help shape financial strategy, ensure compliance, and drive service improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead on budget monitoring, forecasting, and financial reporting.
* Provide financial challenge and insight to operational teams.
* Prepare and present reports to senior stakeholders.
* Support savings plans, service reviews, and funding compliance.
* Contribute to cross-directorate initiatives and ad hoc financial projects.
* Liaise with external partners(e.g., SEND and Health) on joint funding arrangements.
Candidate Profile:
* Proven experience as a Finance Business Partner in a local authority setting.
* Strong understanding of public sector funding and budget management.
* Confident communicator with the ability to influence non-financial colleagues.
* Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with financial systems.
* Experience within a Children and Young People Directorate is highly desirable.
* Professionally qualified (e.g. AAT, CIPFA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent experience.
