The Yehudi Menuhin School seeks to appoint an enthusiastic, organised and qualified Mathematics/Physics Teacher to join our School on a part-time basis from January 2026.

The role is a permanent, part time position (0.5 FTE). The successful candidate will be required to teach approximately 12 lessons per week. The salary is £16,500-£18,500 per annum (FTE £33,000-£37,000 per annum).

The key duties and responsibilities are:

Teaching and Learning

* Plan, prepare and teach 50% of a full timetable of Maths (and potentially Physics) across all age-ranges as directed by the Head of Department/Deputy Head (Academic).
* Be aware of the diverse needs within any given class and to differentiate lessons and resources accordingly.
* Understand and implement the aims and objectives of the School and the department, and to contribute to its vibrant and creative atmosphere.
* Regularly mark pupils' work and engage in continual assessment of pupils' progress, preparing lessons accordingly. Set and mark Private Study (homework) according to the timetable and in line with departmental policy.
* Maintain attractive displays of pupils work in the classroom.
* Provide feedback to parents in the form of grades, written reports and parents' meetings as required by the School. To communicate efficiently with parents as required outside of the set reporting framework.
* Set high standards of professionalism and maintain best practice with regards to attendance and punctuality.
* Ensure that pupils are suitably prepared for entry to the appropriate public examinations, and to implement and review the curriculum to ensure that it meets the needs of the pupils.
* Be proficient in the use of IT and the School's information systems, including Microsoft Office and CPOMS.
* Develop and manage up-to-date teaching and learning resources, including library and digital resources, and advise the Head of Department/Deputy Head (Academic) on course materials.
* Monitor and maintain high standards in the classroom environment and ensure that the department classrooms present a stimulating environment.
* Assist with the setting, marking and, where necessary, co-ordination of internal examinations in the department.
* Maintain and develop, with any other teachers of the subject, schemes of work within the requirements of the examination boards; monitor developments in curriculum requirements on a national scale and respond accordingly.
* Maintain sound discipline inside and outside the classroom, within the School's agreed procedures.
* Ensure that the pupils' work is regularly assessed, that marks are recorded and that reports are written at appropriate times.

Pastoral Care

* Ensure and promote the safety and wellbeing of pupils at all times in accordance with the School's Safeguarding Policy and other relevant policies, and to undertake appropriate training.
* Liaise with the Deputy Heads (Academic and Pastoral) and other staff to ensure pupils' academic and pastoral wellbeing.
* Be a personal tutor to a group of pupils as required by the Head.
* Attend staff meetings, department meetings, academic meetings and pastoral meetings as required, as well as annual parents' meetings.
* Establish a safe and stimulating environment for pupils and to maintain discipline in accordance with the School's Behaviour Policy.

Wider Contribution to School Life

* Attend INSET and all additional training as required.
* Carry out duties as prescribed by the Deputy Head (Academic), including cover for absent colleagues, examination invigilation and other duties reasonably expected of School staff.
* Commit to the wider co-curricular life of the School community and contribute towards the full-boarding ethos.
* Be aware of, support, and implement all School policies, including assessment and reporting, rewards and conduct, and those in place to maintain safe working practice.
* Be committed to your own professional development, engaging with annual appraisals and attending training as recommended.
* Undertake any duties relating to the supervision of pupils as reasonably requested by the head or other members of the Leadership Team.

Located in the village of Stoke d'Abernon, near Cobham in Surrey, Yehudi Menuhin School is a specialist independent music school that first opened its doors in 1963. Named for its founder, the famous violinist, the school provides places for a small cohort of pupils aged Aside from the focus on musical endeavours, it also offers a wider curriculum.

Yehudi Menuhin provides boarding facilities for most of its pupils. The fee-paying school offers generous bursaries to help cover the cost of tuition and accommodation. The school is technically selective, with admission dependent on an audition.
