Overview
Maintenance Craftsperson (Vehicle Mechanic) based at the Borders General Hospital Fleet Workshop, Melrose. The successful candidate may also be required to work from other Scottish Ambulance Service Workshops. You will be part of a highly skilled and dedicated team reporting to the Workshop Chargehand.

The Successful Candidate Will
* Be a Vehicle Mechanic with experience in the maintenance and repair of cars and light commercial vehicles
* Have worked in a vehicle workshop environment for several years, qualified to a minimum of NVQ Level 2 (or comparable qualification) or equivalent experience gained in a vehicle workshop
* Hold a full driving licence with C1 entitlement (or attain prior to appointment)
* Have experience operating in a demanding working environment with health and safety at the forefront
* Be capable of delivering high-quality vehicle and equipment support with minimal supervision to front-line colleagues in the East Region
* Experience of electrical and tail lift repairs (advantageous)
* Be familiar with using the internet and e-mail
Working Arrangements
This is a full-time position working 08:00-16:00, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday. You may be asked to work at another workshop with a different shift pattern. Occasional overtime and public holiday working may be required, with pay at the appropriate enhanced rate. Shifts and hours may change due to the introduction of a reduced working week of 36 hours in April 2026.
