We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a full time Band 6 Senior Sexual Health Nurse to work in our Level 3 Centre of Excellence at the Ambrose King Centre in Whitechapel where the post will be primarily based.

Across all our services we have an established service model of nurse delivered level three sexual health provision. We are looking to recruit a dynamic sexual health nurse to join our existing team who provide integrated sexual health care to a diverse population in Northeast London.
You will be an experienced sexual health nurse who possesses higher level skills for managing patients' sexual health needs and can work independently. Key responsibilities include;
• Independently providing sexual health, contraceptive care and advice within a level 3 service
• This will include providing all forms of contraception, so you will either already hold or demonstrate the ability to gain
o the Diploma from the College of Sexual and Reproductive Health
o the Letter of competence in subdermal implant fitting and /or intrauterine contraception
• Assessing, diagnosing and treating unselected patients attending for sexual health needs.
• Providing Pre Exposure HIV Prophylaxis to eligible patients.
• Operational co-ordination of the shift
• Assisting with the support, development and management of band 3 Health Care Support workers and band 5 Sexual Health Nurses
• You will receive clinical supervision, support and training to help you succeed in this role.

Main duties of the job

We have band 6 Senior Sexual Health Nurse posts across the All East Integrated Sexual Health Service. The posts are based at our Centres of Excellence (Ambrose King Centre in Whitechapel, and Sir Ludwig Guttmann Centre in Stratford, which also has associated satellite clinics in Newham and Waltham Forest).

• Independently provide sexual and reproductive health care to undifferentiated clients attending integrated sexual health clinics)
• Coordinate the clinical area working in close collaboration and co-operation with members of the multi professional team, ensuring the provision safe, high quality care with the available resource within the context of a clinical governance framework
• Ensure that all activities in the area are carried out within the Barts Health NHS Trust and Directorate policy guidelines
• Proactively contribute to the continuous development and improvement of the service and support others in doing the same

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Registered Adult Nurse (Level 1)
2. Educated to 1st degree level
3. Current contraception and sexual health experience

Desirable criteria

4. Teaching Qualification
5. Holds current Letter of competence in the fitting and removal of sub dermal implants and /or intrauterine contraception.
6. Holds DFSRH and/or STIF intermediate qualification
7. Master’s degree

Skills

Essential criteria

8. Ability to develop higher level clinical skills in the assessment, treatment and management of patients attending with sexual health and contraceptive needs
9. Highly developed communication skills
10. Developed teaching and assessing skills
11. Demonstrates the ability to influence others, share ideas and utilise feedback effectively
12. Demonstrates ability to build and maintain productive and positive relationships within the multi-disciplinary team
13. Demonstrates the ability to critique, interpret and utilise research information effectively
14. Computer and IT skills
15. Demonstrates the ability to interpret and utilise numerical and financial information
16. Demonstrates experience of using and or developing Patient Group Directions and integrated care pathways

20. Experience of providing care and treatment to patients with sexual health and contraceptive needs
21. General post registration experience and current integrated sexual health experience required

24. Evidence of supporting and taking part in Clinical Supervision
25. Evidence of supporting successful change management
26. Evidence of practice development
27. Evidence of local resolution of complaints

Knowledge

Essential criteria

31. Demonstrates an understanding of relevant issues in sexual health and contraceptive services and the government sexual health agenda
32. Able to discuss pertinent issues regarding higher level nursing practice
33. Demonstrates an understanding of the concept of clinical and shared governance.
34. Demonstrates an understanding of quality improvement strategies.
35. Demonstrates knowledge of patient group directions and integrated care pathways
