Overview

The Role
We are seeking a Registered Mental Health Nurse with a strong interest in working with individuals with complex mental health needs in a community setting. You will be responsible for your own caseload under the direct supervision from a Band 6 charge nurse. As part of a multi-disciplinary team within the context of a CMHT, the post holder will assess patient care needs and develop and evaluate programmes of care. They will carry out all relevant forms of care in partnership with patients, carers and other professionals in line with agreed standards and clinical policies and without direct supervision. Participation in regular caseload supervision with a named Band 6 CPN will be a critical aspect of the role. Supervising the practice of, and demonstrating procedures to, student nurses and unqualified staff will be an important aspect of the role, as will mentoring nurses undergoing basic training.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
* The postholder will join the Arran Community Mental Health Team
* The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday, 09:00 - 17:00
Key Responsibilities
* Functioning as Named Nurse / Keyworker within a multi-disciplinary team to a defined patient caseload
* The assessment of care needs and the planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care
* Carrying out all relevant forms of nursing care pertinent to the needs of individual patients and/or delegating all or aspects of care to a named Health Care Assistant
* Identifying and responding to the health promotion needs of patients under the post holder's care
* Identifying and responding to the needs of patients related to gender health, domestic abuse, and child protection
* Maintaining accurate records of nursing care
* Developing therapeutic relationships with patients and carers ensuring that care needs are identified and met within a participative framework recognising equality, dignity and respect with consideration of spiritual and cultural diversity
* Ensuring personal practice (and that of Health Care Assistants to whom delegated duties are given) aligns with the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 and the Patient Focus Public Involvement and Fair for All guidelines
* Ensuring personal practice (and that of Health Care Assistants to whom duties are delegated) is in line with national and locally agreed policy, standards, guidelines and good practice statements
* Supporting the Band 6 and Nurse Team Leader by participating in the establishment and maintenance of a robust approach to clinical governance within the CMHT, including communication, leadership, clinical and operational standards, clinical audit, evidence-based practice, and a culture of learning and safety
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience
* Registered Mental Nurse (RMN) with live NMC registration
* At least 12 months experience at band 5 within a relevant clinical area
* Evidence of post basic professional development
* Evidence of effective leadership skills commensurate with the Band 5 role
* Evidence of excellent team working skills
* Ability to work using own initiative and without direct supervision
* Effective communication skills
* Effective listening and interpersonal skills
* Full Driving Licence
