Overview

Have you completed the Level 3 in Residential Childcare and are now looking for an opportunity to progress into a Senior Children’s Residential Support Worker role? Join this Good Ofsted rated LD Children’s Home in Handsworth. Home to up to four young people aged 11-18, the home has been praised for the care it provides. The Registered Manager is highly experienced, with a background as an operations manager and dual registered manager across two homes, achieving Good outcomes with commendations from Ofsted for being passionate and diligent. The organisation operates two children’s homes across the West Midlands and offers mentorship and progression opportunities, with clinical input from a Doctor informing the therapeutic practice and online ClearCare systems.

Location: Handsworth Wood, B20. Job Title: Senior Children’s Residential Support Worker. Type: 4-bedded LD home with a therapeutic PACE approach. Contract: Full time, 40 hours per week with sleeps required. Shift pattern: 7:30–21:30; flexibility and one-month advance rota planning required.


Responsibilities

* Be the backbone of the staff team on shift, using your residential childcare experience to lead and support a passionate team and ensure smooth operation of the home and high-quality care for young people.
* Lead and communicate effectively with young people, colleagues, families, and external professionals; supervise shifts and problem-solve calmly under pressure.
* Key-work with young people, promote life skills and independence, encourage engagement in education, activities, and hobbies, and prepare them for adult life when they leave care.
* Develop and review Ofsted-required paperwork such as care plans, behaviour support plans, and risk assessments.
* Adhere to Ofsted regulations related to Quality Standards and follow safeguarding policies and procedures.
* Understand home operations, including Health and Safety, medication administration, cleanliness, and finances.


Requirements

* 2+ years’ experience specifically within a children’s home environment.
* Level 3 or 4 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
* Full UK Manual Driving Licence and access to a vehicle.
* Flexibility to work the described shift pattern, including sleep-ins.
* A genuine passion for supporting the well-being and healthy development of young people.


Package & Benefits

* Basic pay: £14.80 – £15.80 per hour, plus £50 per sleep-in.
* Estimated package: up to £37,664 per annum based on 8 sleep-ins per month.
* Enhanced Overtime Rate: +£2.20 per hour.
* Additional Bonus: Up to £3,000 per year in performance-based bonuses.

* Training & Qualifications: Fully funded and accredited Level 5 in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, therapeutic PACE training, and more.
* Promotion Pathway: Opportunities to progress toward Deputy Manager with 9–5 shifts while shadowing the Registered Manager as the company expands.
